Alzheimer’s Breakthrough

One of the nation’s leading health insurers, Elevance Health (known as Anthem) now covers blood-based biomarker testing for Alzheimer’s detection and diagnosis – making it one of the first in the US to establish explicit coverage criteria. The significance: as anti-amyloid drugs lecanemab and donanemab gain traction, accurate early diagnosis is a prerequisite for treatment eligibility. Blood-based tests are an important triage step, identifying patients who should proceed to confirmatory PET or CSF testing before pricier workups begin.
