LSD - To Fix Anxiety?
Several new drugs to help treat anxiety and what’s called anxious depression are due out on the market potentially in the coming year or two and the question is not just will they work but will policymakers and insurers cover the medicines and make them accessible and, if they do, what restrictions will be in place and will they work in the broader population as they have in clinical trials.
One pharmaceutical, a formulation of LSD called MM120, is getting attention as much for its results as its history. A neuroscientist from San Francisco talks about the potential for the drug in treating anxiety disorder. The disorder affects about 1 in 20 U.S. adults. Those with serious symptoms may isolate themselves to the point they rarely leave their home and are unable to work and build meaningful relationships. But this neuroscientist says there’s the new experimental treatment has shown surprising results. The therapy is discussed here in this article from the University of California in San Francisco.
