Doula Depression Screen
Screenings for depression are a great way to prevent issues during pregnancy. UnitedHealthcare is trying to address this by expanding doula coverage across employer-sponsored insurance plans, potentially reaching 7.2 million members by 2027 depending on how many employers opt in. The phased rollout will offer either a reimbursement allowance or set number of in-person or virtual visits. Coverage is expanding in Medicaid as well, the largest single payer of pregnancy-related services, according to Kaiser Family Foundation, covering 4 in 10 births. Malama Health, a doula-led maternal care provider, is the latest to join Medicaid networks in California, Texas, and Colorado. The provider gets reimbursed a monthly payment per patient with incentives tied to closing gaps in care, like depression screenings.
